Facilities

Information Technology supports computing and technology initiatives for faculty, staff, and students. Our facilities and equipment are located across the Rice campus in classrooms, labs, wiring closets, and more. The majority of centralized computing and networking equipment is located in two buildings: the Mudd Building and the Primary Data Center.

Mudd Building

The majority of IT staff have offices in the Mudd Building; other staff are co-located with their customers across campus. To find the Mudd building, check out the Rice interactive map  and search for the "Mudd Computer Science Laboratory."

Help Desk

The Help Desk  is staffed with support specialists and located in the Mudd building, room 103. Walk-ins are welcome during office hours. You can also request help with your computing problems is to create an electronic ticket at http://helpdesk.rice.edu, email helpdesk@rice.edu, or phone 713-348-HELP (4357).

Operations Center

Located in the Mudd building, room 109, Operations Center staff members monitor critical systems around the clock and manage the small Mudd Data Center. The Operations Center also houses plotters and other student printers.

Primary Data Center

The Primary Data Center is a secure, climate-controlled environment that houses Rice computing equipment off-campus for IT and other research groups. (If you need this type of storage space for your research equipment, submit your request online at http://helpdesk.rice.edu/).
