Klara Jelinkova is the Vice President for International Operations & Information Technology and Chief Information Officer. She was appointed in January 2015. The Office of Information Technology reports to her and provides centralized resources in support of teaching, learning, research and administrative functions. Her responsibilities expanded to include International Operations with the announcement of the focused extension of Rice’s international engagements in April 2018. Jelinkova is the first Chief Information Officer at Rice and was hired to combine several IT functions into a cohesive unit (OIT) and set up IT Governance at Rice.
Jelinkova previously served as the Chief Information Technology Officer and Senior Associate Vice President at the University of Chicago. Starting in 2010 she led the central IT organization - IT Services. Her accomplishments included the restructuring and realignment of the IT function and the implementations of the Grants Management system, Budget system, new HR/Payroll system, compressive business intelligence and reporting facility, and other systems and services. She supported the global aspirations of the University of Chicago by overseeing the technology implementation of centers in Beijing, Delhi, and Hong Kong.
From 2006 – 2010 Jelinkova served as the Assistant Vice President of Shared Services and Infrastructure at Duke University. She was also the interim CISO. From 1996 to 2006 Jelinkova worked at the University of Wisconsin-Madison in various leadership roles. She started her career in Information Technology at Software Publishing Corporation in 1993.
Jelinkova is an active member of several regional and national higher education organizations including membership on the Internet2 Board and the InCommon Steering Committee. She also serves on several industry advisory boards. She received her bachelor’s degree from University of Wisconsin – Madison.
