Phishing is when an attacker fraudulently impersonates someone to trick you into providing information. We often see phishing attacks in our email. These messages will:
• Ask you to reply with usernames, passwords, or other private information.
• Direct you to a false site impersonating an official site (e.g. bank) or official Rice website.
• Try to trick you into giving them your username, password, or other private information.
Please report any phishing messages you receive. Not sure if it's phishing? Report it anyway. The IT Security Office will investigate the message and take steps to protect the campus. We'll need as much information as possible to investigate the message. Use the information in this link (https://kb.rice.edu/page.php?id=68682) to find and copy the header information of the message. Then, paste this information in a new email and send it to the Rice OIT Help Desk - email@example.com.
Contact the Rice OIT Help Desk at 713-348-HELP immediately. They will work with you to change your password and help determine what else needs to be done to protect you and your accounts.
